Small Robot Company

Small Robot Company
Country: United Kingdom

Small Robot Company (SRC), a UK agro-tech startup for sustainable agriculture, has developed artificially intelligent robots named Tom, Dick and Harry that identify and destroy individual weeds using electricity. These farming robots can reduce the use of harmful chemicals and heavy machinery, paving the way for a new approach to sustainable farming.

The startup has been working on automatic weed killers since 2017, and this April officially launched Tom, the first commercial robot currently operating on three farms in the UK. Dick is still in the prototype stage and Harry is still in development.

The Small Robot Company grows the largest crops in the world.

Small Robot Company is a startup that is revolutionizing the way technology is used to create food. Ben Scott-Robinson, a seasoned entrepreneur at the forefront of user-centered design, and Sam Watson Jones, a fourth-generation farmer, were inspired by the work of Simon Blackmore of the National Center for Precision. Farming at Harper Adams and his vision of replacing much of the work of tractors in the fields with a series of high precision, smart and lightweight robots. Sam's first step was to interview a large number of farmers across the country, firstly, about the problems with their current tractor-centric systems, and secondly, what concrete results they expect from the new farming model. His discovery was that farmers felt poorly served by existing machinery manufacturers and new technologies delivered in the form of hardware or software products.

The company's vision is to automate farming. Little robots Tom, Dick and Harry will take care of each plant individually. It will feed and spray only the plants that need it, no waste. Precision setting, not continuous chemical spraying. Small Robot was founded in 2017 and is headquartered in Portsmouth, England.

Our history

We are a start-up company looking to revolutionize the way we use technology to make food. Ben Scott-Robinson, a seasoned entrepreneur working at the forefront of user-centered design, and Sam Watson Jones, a fourth-generation farmer, were inspired by the work of Simon Blackmore of the National Precision Farming Center at Harper Adams and his vision of replacing Much of the work of tractors with fields is performed using a series of high-precision, smart and lightweight robots.

Sam's interviews, however, revealed that there is a clear appetite for working with early-stage technology if it can be accessed in a way that limits its exposure to failure and obsolescence.

Ben used this feedback to start developing the Farming as a Service (FaaS) concept with Tom Dick and Harry, and the Small Robot Company was born.

Since then, we have built an experienced technical team focused on efficiently building an AI-powered robotic service. We have the world's best engineering team, which includes Robot Awesomeness Head Joe Allnutt and Dr. Thomas Burrell. We can deliver at a pace using a flexible, integrated delivery program led by Taskmaster Katherine Pratt. We have become one of the most recognizable brands in AgriTech thanks to the wonderful messages from Guru Sarah Mander. Charlotte the Omniscient makes us run smoothly ... and let's not forget the team of vaccine specialists including Muddy Robin, Prodigy Chris, and Nemo, a former Apprentice.
